I really just wanted Mobile DTV and not a DVD player, but what the heck, I'd get both, and for a nice price. I have to admit, I waited impatiently for mobile DTV to replace my old analog TV tuner used in my car since I enjoy listening to the evening news while driving. Although we have only one Mobile TV broadcaster in Tampa Bay, I thought I would give this unit a try. I first tried in in my home since I would also like to use it during power outages. Reception was very poor: I was only able to receive a signal after much fiddling with the antenna, and for some reason, the signal was only available in one location in the house. Strange, but I was not able to receive a signal outside of the house. I then tried using the unit in my vehicle (my wife driving of course) and was unable to receive any signal whatsoever, and this was driving towards the broadcaster's antenna system. Maybe I'm too far away from the broadcaster's... Read more

Even DVD's played nicely - and in good clear weather I could pick up a fair Mobile DTV station about one hundred miles away. Recently in my area, we had two MDTV stations go on the air that I managed to pick up. But the good news ends there. First off, there is no ATSC tuner built in, meaning one is limited to MDTV signals or nothing - zip. Second, the two local signals would pop in or out. Certainly no where near the claims that a signal could be picked up in a moving car. Another problem is the antenna offers no coax port to hook an external antenna up - wish I knew that before I bought it. I was one of those suckers who plunked down the initial $250 for it. $99 is better, but all you'd still have is a glorified DVD player. Granted, MDTV is a very new technology, but it should have featured a dual ATSC / MDTV tuner to make it more useful. Also, one needs to have the remote control to access all features... Read more

After reading the reviews I was not sure what to expect. In the Orlando area, we can receive an ABC, CBS, and NBC affiliate. Reception is good, even when moving. There are some issues receiving our NBC affiliate because it is still broadcasting in VHF. It does not receive the standard DTV, but this is not a problem as you are most likely going to use this player in a moving car. As for playing DVDs, it works fine as a portable DVD player. The battery life is excellent--I had it on for about 4 hours in both TV and DVD mode. It has surprisingly good speakers, which instead of being in the screen are on the front of the base. They sound clear even at fairly high volume. There are a few bonuses, such as the ability to play music files and view pictures from a USB stick, and the player has video out. The only major complaint I have is the quality of the screen. It is... Read more
